[RC] Problem Child - Prognosis - Timothy Worden

Thank-you to those who replied with words of
encouragement and ideas of what's wrong.

Poco looked horrible when we went to see him after
work. We finally got a pile of saw dust in his
temporary corral. He was so happy to lay down in the
soft sawdust. His poor body was so exhausted. We
were of course worried to death that something serious
was wrong. It's very easy to expect the worst.

The vet was able to visit this evening. We told him
what was happening and that we thought it was his
shoulder area. Of course being the doc, he knew
otherwise and went right for his hoof testers and hoof
knife. First good squeeze with the
testers.....YOWZA!!! A little scrape with the
knife....sure 'nuff...the feet. His prognosis is a
possible abscess or some sort of infection in the
hoof...probably all his feet. The cause we could not
pinpoint. So like our other two gimps(who are now
much better), Poco just needs time to heal.

Hopefully our one and only sound horse out of the four
will not get this hoof deal also. The vet looked at
her quickly and she was good. But she's the only one
who's been on hoof supplement for a few months now due
to horizontal cracks. Guess we'll bite the bullet and
put all our horses on the stuff. Currently we're
using Grand Hoof by Grand Meadows.

Well, it's been an exhausting night. I can't imagine
my wife and I having human kids. These 4 horsey kids
keep us busy and broke as it is......but we wouldn't
have it any other way:)

Tim
