Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Canine teeth and horses age - Laurie DurginI second that.Rascal got his canines this winter. He had just turned 11.They were malformed, too far down, and I had to remove them as there was no room for the bit.I have his papers, and he was sold to me from a friend who bought him as a weanling. I think it's one of those " it's not in the textbooks' kind of thing. (Remember textbooks are often written by one guy or one school, and maybe they were in a hurry!!!"(ah, what was it, yeah, this sounds good!").And different vets will give you different ages on the same horse. Our tb was supposed to be 11 when we got him . We have had 4 vets age him and there is a 2-5 year guess of his age. He is tatooed, but part of a number is gone so we aren't sure who he is. We also had a mare (our surprise babys mom. Who was sold to us as 13. Vet said she was 12-15 closer to 15. Found she was tatooed (appendix QH) traced it ,it fit her descrip. She was actually 18. Had a pony he was supposed to be about 11. Another vet said 15. One said about 13. If you raise them or someone else does ,you might get the age right. MHO. ANd I read something that says Arabs teeth often 'age' out younger looking than they are and draft horses ofter look 'older'. Then of course if they are wood chewers or someone files them down? Just enjoy them!!! Laurie /Rascal ,it's a stone brusise now, not the shoulder!!!!!!!/Honey ,who gets a short ride between storms/Scout, stay away rainrot!!!!
