[RC] bits and stops!! - Renie Burnett

Well said, Jonni--"The hackamore did not break the horses jaw, the USER did...."

Somehow, people have gotten the idea that a bit is a brake.  So, is your vehicle equipped with the brakes attached to the STEERING WHEEL?  A bit (or hackamore  or bitless bridle) is a signalling device.  TRAINING is what stops a horse;  Champion reiners stop from a dead run ON A LOOSE REIN!!  Almost all can stop their horses with NOTHING on the horse's head.  You simply are not going to get a horse to stop his FEET by pulling on his mouth/ head.  My advice is to look up a GOOD reining trainer.  Their horses can do ANYTHING including, but not limited to Dressage.  Renie
