[RC] Bitless - Jena WilliamsI would try to find out why the instructor doesn't want you to use the bitless. If the horse is not responsive to it, that is a fault with training, not the tool. Some instructors/horsepeople are just in a rut and don't know how to use a bitless to communicate. So she may be having a hard time teaching you because she is unfamiliar with the tool you choose to use.I can attest the fact that a horse can be just as responsive and light to a bitless as to a bit. Even one rein stops. I don't get to ride my boy much, cause we are working through a back issue, but I broke him with a home made sidepull. He is very green and spoky, but I feel like I have as good of a chance stopping him in a bolt as my 24 year old school horse in a curb. We practiced opening and closing gates mounted yesterday, with a focus on rein aids, not leg. He did great. Of the 2 trainers I have had come around to help me him, one refused to use my bridle and took him back to a snaffle. I let her do what she felt was best, thinking that was what I hired a trainer for. She quit and gave me my money back, because of his explosive behavior. (BTW - we have checked teeth, the whole nine yards. It is just overstimulation on a sensitive horse) The other gave me a funny look and said she would give it a try. YOU know what works best for you and your horse. If you have doubt, try other things, but you make the decision. Don't let other people "opinion" sway you. Jena & Temba sayin' "What are you doing? Hey, why is that gate following me? Aaaah!"
