She withdrew the stallion which was your prerequisite for breeding (and who would want to breed to a savage stallion anyway?!) so consider yourself lucky that you did not breed to him (although his viciousness could have been due to bad handling in all fairness to him) and attempt to get your deposit back. Verbal contracts made in California are valid in all cases except real estate; just make sure the same is true in Oregon. Good luck!
