My mare Pamina has this problem, if
we talk about the same ligament. It actually runs at the backside of
the fetlock. It thickens if the sinews that go down there are stressed (pulled,
inflammation and such, we had that twice) and start rubbing the
ligament.
For Pamina it makes quite an ugly leg with
HUGE windgalls and a swollen look all the way between fetlock and hoof.
One other horse at our barn
recently had a surgery on that (cut the ligament to relief the pressure and rubbing). She is doing fine, but
it was only 2 weeks ago. So there is no telling of the outcome.
I was told by several vets NOT to think
about surgery despite all the swelling, as long as she shows no lameness. So far
she is ok, last years lameness issues had different reasons (stonebruise and
misplaced nail). She did some 75 milers last year and a 100 the year
before, all with that leg. We´ll see how she will do on her second 100 next
weekend.
NO boots. What for? They only add to
the pressure on the sinews. With added pressure from the outside you will not
treat the cause of the problem. Anyway, if anybody has good ideas other than
surgery, I will apreciate.
hi, i'm new here and have a question. anyone ever have their horse strain
the collateral ligament that wraps around from one side of the pastern to the
other under the fetlock? i want to know what boots you all use and why.
thanks
