And from not having all the rider's weight spread out over a large surface area? I've never figured that one out. But even my wimpy, anything-makes-her-back-sore mare does fine on 50's in the sport saddle. It may have something to do with the way the stirrups are suspended. They aren't attached like a bareback pad. They are designed to distribute weight. Since we trot/canter more than walk, our weight is in the stirrups more than the seat. Sound good?
