Re: [RC] Tendon Damage and Glucosamine???? - Steven Proe
Hi Maggie: How do you spell 6-months off minimum, if he
truly had a tendon pull. The Lubrun (glucosamine and chondroitin) and added a
double dose of MSM in this time period is highly unlikely to have provided the
rest that is needed for a tendon to repair.
Subject: Re: [RC] Tendon Damage and
Glucosamine????
I have been feeding Lubrun from Uckele (www.uckele.com) as a preventative since
March. Malik pulled a tendon in his hock two weeks ago. I doubled
his Lubrun (glucosamine and chondroitin) and added a double dose of MSM in
this time period. I had the vet who originally saw him at the ride where
he pulled the tendon look at him this weekend and also had another vet who
knows Malik well take a look. I only buted him every other day (1st day,
3rd day and 5th day after) and hosed it with cold water daily. Couldn't
find any DMSO. The vets this weekend feel he is recovered (one wouldn't
have known had I not told him and the other who saw him two weeks ago said he
is 99.9%) and that the time off and the joint support obviously worked.
Roger R. is the one who originally suggested doubling it if I hadn't already
been feeding it (THANKS, ROGER!). I feel that the preventative
measures and then the extra dosing right away DID help. I highly suggest
it. Malik will still have some more time off with some light riding and
we'll go back out next month and burn some trail then. :) Hope
this helps.
My 8 year old wonderful boy and
partner, Jaybay, pulled a tendon in April, (he fell in a hole at Heart of
Texas Ride) I had him in the Vet on Monday when we returned, ultra sound
showed a very small tear. After 6 weeks he went back to the vet and the
second ultra sound showed clear, my instructions were to 1) start riding
slow 2) use leg wrap when riding, and 3) add glucosamine to his
diet. THIS IS WHERE I AM LOST! The med's from the vet are
very expensive and there are so many products on the market I have no idea
which is best, has anyone used a product that they have had good results
with? Jaybay will have more time off due to my broken ankle, so we have lots
of time to get him on this product and ready to ride in Oct. I hope. (my
broken ankle required surgery, pins plats and screws) Before the accident we
were riding at a slow pace 5 to 10 miles per day and he is doing great! No
swelling and not off. Any Help or information will be greatley
apprecated! Debbie
