1) Girls, don't be shy here. It's hot and
miserable outside, but, you still want to go riding. My idea:
Ride NAKED. Men, topless for you is OK, but, if you have breasts
like mine you might want to consider wearing a sports bra.
2) It is difficult to keep a 6 pack cool in hot weather while riding
your horse. Ice melts and makes a mess. Allow me to introduce to you
the idea of frozen beer. Yes, pre freeze your beer the night before.
Don't worry, that sorry ass battery powered ice box you have in your trailer
isn't powerful enough to make the beer explode. And, don't forget to
purchase your insulated saddle bags, providing you enough room for a 12 pack,
for those really long rides. Please, share (don't bogart that beer, my
friend, pass it over to me).
3) Talking generates heat and energy. ON a really hot day, it
is preferred (yea, ladies I'm talking to you) that you reserve this energy and,
instead of talking, have a beer. You can't really drink and talk at the
same time anyway, so, sit back in the saddle, relax, have a cold one, and you
won't have to worry about spilling anything on your clothes, while drinking
and posting in the trot, cause you ain't wearing any (refer to #1).
4) Realize that it is now past the 21st of June, the longest day of
the year, so, things have to improve, right? After a few more beers the
idea of summer heat won't seem that bad, and as long as you're able to stay
mounted on your horse and create your own breeze, you'll start to wonder why
some folks are concerned about the warm weather at all. For you, the wind,
the feel of that almost cool air traveling over your moist skin (sans clothing),
a horse, a cool one, life just doesn't get any better than this (until you whack
your head into that misplaced tree limb because you just saw another naked horse
rider who looked so darn funny you couldn't take your eyes off of them).
5) And, finally, if you brought along enough beer, don't forget the
horse. Horses get real hot out there on that endurance trail this time of
year. There's nothing much better for them, after hauling
your naked butt around all those miles, than slurping down a really
cool beer!
Need tips on how to stay cool in hot and
humid weather. I know this has been discussed before but I feel
it's a good time to bring it up again. One of the items to be
considered in my case is that my lower body/legs DO NOT sweat at all due to
scar tissue. Thus anything waist and higher does the major cooling
for my body. Had a hot/humid conditioning ride today...my
friend and the horses did OK but I didn't. Fortunately we found a
small stream and the water was cool...got myself wet and eventually cooled
down...meanwhile the horses got lots splashed on them too which
they appreciated. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks, Val+Sania+Fly
