Out west here in the dry desert,
we have all kinds of little critters helping themselves. Pretty much standard to
put a short length board in the tank. Some horses play with them, pull them out,
but I wire those in. It works. Cant remember the last time I had a
fatality in the horses tank. And I keep a bucket of water outside the
corrals,with a brick in it for exit, for anyone who needs a drink.

My spotted saddle horse climbs
into the trough and spashes around.....killed 2 unsuspecting Koi fish.
My pasture trough holds 715 gallons and in round. I solved my problem
by dragging the tough about 3/4 of the way out of the pasture under the
fence. They can drink but can't jump in anymore.....mb
