Re: [RC] [RC] [Guest] elec collars - Deanna GermanI think it'd be more fair to the dog to teach him a reliable recall before putting him in a situation where he could chase deer. Geez, did you at least tell him NO! before you zapped him? The use of the e-collar should be for failing to obey a command or, in this case, inhibit his prey drive. I don't believe shortcuts ever truly work and are a poor substitute for training. Training shortcuts with dogs lead to unreliability and unpredictability. Deanna Ray O'Donohue rno2m@xxxxxxxxxxxx The dog need NOT know what the desired behavior is in all cases before pressing the button.Deer chasing is an excellent example of this type of e-collar work.It IS a "shortcut" and it works, altho it may take more than one lesson. You must bide your time, and never press the button unless you know what the dog is doing. This type of avoidance training (deer, snakes, etc) generally calls for the higher voltage settings.....Yip!Yip! Yip!Chasin' deer sure is fun!Yip,Yip,....YIIIPE!I'm goin'back to dad,I didn't know deer could do that! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
