Re: [RC] [Guest] Weight divisions - Steven Proe

Hi Folks: Speaking as a heavy weight rider, the larger riders many of them know of the dis-advantage of the extra weight. I know that I had to train myself and my horses very carefully and had to make sure that they were thoroughly trained for the long distances. Without taking anything away from lighter riders and their mounts, it can be a less intensive training process for most and the mounts are not stressed as easily as a mount that is carrying more weight.

I have always stated to a lite or middleweight rider that I would trade them ride's and see how well their horse would do carrying me about.

The race tracks adjust this weight in a few pounds extra when they race at the tracks over relatively short distances, never mind over huge distances and obstacles night and day.

This is just my humble opinion. ( Weight makes heat and heat is the largest factor in humans and rides)]

Steven

Check and see sometime how many heavyweights have won Tevis.......The record is held by a heavyweight I think.  Of course the trail has changed many times since then....mb
