Re: [RC] horse fatalities, 2002 - Jim HollandHeidi Smith wrote: Speculation has its place, but not in an official report. Huh??? I have done MANY reports...and speculation is ALWAYS there...and recommendations...and opinions. That's the REASON for the report. Where in the world did you get come up with that?????? You are asked to do a report so you can provide some insight. If you are qualified to research and submit the report, you are qualified to voice your opinions on the subject, suggest solutions, make recommendations, etc, etc. If the official report says, "Jim Holland's horse that died MIGHT have been saved if he had given more e-lytes at vet check 3," then by the time it gets on Ridecamp, it has become "Jim Holland is an ignorant SOB who overrode his horse and refused to give it e-lytes and the vet committee says he killed his horse." You are ASSUMING that would happen...and again I respectfully disagree. You don't know that...and the welfare of the horse is more important than the "possibility" that something would be taken out of context. IMHO, the Vet Committee and the BoD need to get over this paranoia that someone's feelings MIGHT get hurt and someone MIGHT be offended and that individual MIGHT not attend another ride and that some Vet or rider MIGHT have made a mistake and that AERC MIGHT lose out on a few $$$$$. If they did, perhaps a few more horses MIGHT just still be alive. Just MHO....
