Re: [RC] OT what to do with the horse droppings? - Heidi SmithWe had a lovely young horse come through the surgical service not too long ago that had been treated against parasites homeopathically with DE andtheaddition of wormwood to his feed,,,,,,,,,,> So, please folks, if your bent is towards homeopathy, please keep in mindthat the sandpaper effect of the DE probably does a better job of sanding down intestinal mucosa than it does a heavy parasite load. It doesn't take much DE to get the emerging adult flies--but since internal parasites aren't using an air-breathing respiratory system, the mechanism by which DE works on flies doesn't apply to internal parasites. So yes, if one was depending on some sort of external damage to the parasite from the DE, considering the tough outer "skin" that they have to withstand the insults of living in a digestive tract, it would stand to reason that the intestinal mucosa would be apt to be damaged by an overload of DE long before the parasite would!
