[RC] Dorsey Creek ride and "This joy you feel" - Cindy CollinsFirst, I want to say how much I enjoyed Lisa's comments on running and endurance. I agree w/her totally and her essay really inspired me today. Thanks, Lisa. The Dorsey Creek 25/50 was held on this past Saturday, also in the "beautiful" Otto desert! I have put two photos of the area on the ridecamp photo album. We had 15 riders in the 50 miler, I believe, and nine in the 25 miler. (We considered this an excellent turn-out since we're on the same date of the beautiful Black Hills ride which Frank described so eloquently.) Friday night we had a fantastic dinner, as usual...barb-b-qued ribs that melted in your mouth, cheese-sour cream-potato casserole, salads, breads, and cake. All home-made by Jeannette Tolman. Saturday saw some of our first really warm weather w/ highs in the upper 80s. I don't have a list of all the finishing order, but Doris Roesch on her awesome mule, Taj Mahal, won the 50 miler and Dorothy Sue Phillips won BC on Montana Flyer. I had a lovely day, getting the rare opportunity to ride all 50 miles with Kathy Arnold. We laughed and told stories about the past. (For those of you wondering, Kathy was starting her new 5 yr. old stallion on his first ride so that's why she was going my speed!) Anyhow, our next ride in the Big Horn basin area of Wyoming is on June 14th in Basin, Wyoming. The ride site is based at the fairgrounds. There are stalls for horses and hot showers available. You do have to haul out about 2 miles to the start of the ride, but it's worth it for the camping facilities at the fairgrounds. Hope to see you there.
