[RC] Fetlock Injury? - heidi sowardsShelley, have a vet check this out right away. My gelding had a similar "lump" and I thought it was some sort of a windpuff. My farrier and horsey friends all thought so too. Mine was in the rear though. I let it go, didn't notice any heat, horse was not off. He went and did a 50 mid-pack, seemed fine, took some of the winter off and in the spring the scar tissue involved ended his endurance career. I used a TENS machine, Stall rest, hand-walking, laser therapy, massage, supplements, injections (Dr. Mike Foss and Tom Ivers diagnosing and consulting) and he's now a nice trail horse. Ultrasound showed scar tissue surrounding the tendons that slide over the joint. I spoke with Dr. Foss at the last PNER convention and he said he had another with a similar injury, but they caught it in time and the horse appears to be recovering. Might not be the same injury, but if I had to do it over again, I'd have called Dr. Foss teh first day I'd noticed it. Good luck!!!! heidi --- Shelley Kerr <skerr@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: I have a horse that I recently acquired and he has a spot on the front of his fetlock that looks like a lump about 1-2 inches in diameter and sticks out about 1/4 inch. When I felt it, it's not hard and may be some kind of swelling? I'm not sure, it's just kind of odd. I have tried to find out about any tendons or ligaments on the front of the leg that may be injured, but haven't had any luck as yet. Any ideas from anyone what this might be? He's not lame, no noticeable heat, has complete movement of the joint. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
