All three regularly top ten endurance rides of 50 to 100 miles. Beau and I discovered the beauty of maintaining a long sustained trot. We used to be the surge and rest type, which I think annoys some of the other riders. What do you think? Every horse and every ride is different, but generally a steady, consistent pace is the best, IMO. I've often had other riders pass me, then I pass them while they're walking, then they pass me again, etc. I almost always end up finishing ahead of them. You shouldn't IMO alter your pace to please other riders, in any event. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
