Re: [RC] electrolytes - Rides 2 Far

 I > would switch to Angie's recipe.

Credit where credit's due, that's actually the old Ridgeway Recipe. I've
used it a lot, and I've used some commercial brands and never saw any
difference. Only time I've ever had trouble was when I used a commercial
recipe straight from a mainstream vet supply place that was not endurance
specific. That day my horse got thumps.

Now...as to being "apple flavored". I find it hard to believe that any
straight electrolyte recipe is anything but SALTY flavored. Case in
point. Last night I was gonna be a good wife and made a broccoli
casserole. My salt shaker was empty so I filled it up, put the lid back
on but didn't snap it down good. :-( When I shook it over the casserole
1/2 the shaker poured out (about one dose of electrolytes). I scraped all
of it off the top that I possibly could, thought I got it all, may have
left less than a teaspoon...not 2 tbsp like a dose of electrolytes...then
stirred it in. Thought it would be O.K. YUK!!! Very salty. I ended up
doubling the casserole recipe and trying to stir the rest in to cut the
salt...added more soup... still tasted pretty darned salty. I think
maybe the brand that's mostly sugar might get a tad of taste in there,
but as for straight electrolytes, they taste like salt no matter how good
they smell.

Electrolyte cookies may have a cookie texture, but they taste like salt.
If you put it in yogurt rather than applesauce you may get a smoother
texture that stays thick longer, but it tastes like salt!
