Re: [RC] Horse size -- was Rios brother - Barbara McCraryI would have said that a gelding stops growing at seven, but your horse has made a liar out of me. As for mounting, do as I do....cheat. Use a mounting block, a large stable rock, put your horse on the downhill side of you, mount from a berm......Lots of possibilities. I ask because I purchased a seven year old half-Arabian late last fall. He was 14.2 hh, which seemed almost perfect for me. We've been doing a lot of riding since then, and I kept thinking, man, this horse is getting harder and harder to mount. I finally re-measured him and he has grown from 14.2 hh to 15.2 hh. Any ideas on how much longer he is going to grow??? I REALLY wanted a short horse, but I'm so in love with this one that he's not going anywhere, so does anyone have suggestions for exercises I can do to strength my body for mounting? I've been doing squats and stretching, but that's just not cutting it.
