Re: [RC] loose salt - Susan GarlinghouseI've heard a lot about "loose salt" but don't know how to >properly feed it "loose" or where to buy it. To feed it loose, just dump some in the bottom of a feed tub, manger, in a box somewhere...whatever. It's not an exact science. :-) Also, is there anyway with "loose" salt your horse can >ingest too much? Can it be a problem? Normally, no, livestock won't eat too much salt if they have consistent access to it and have access to good water. There are reports of salt toxicity occurring (mostly in range cattle) when they were salt-starved, had sudden access and ate tons of the stuff all at once. Then they can go blind, start staggering around and have all kinds of problems. Not likely to happen with horses managed with a little common sense whether the salt is loose or block. :-) Susan G =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
