Re: [RC] What can you tell me about Tennessee Walkers and other gaited breeds? - Milinda Ellis

Karen,

I have Tennessee Walkers in addition to Cleveland Bays. When I ride a
Walker with a non-gaited horse, the non-gaited have to work harder to keep
up. Your husband might be able to ride at a walk while you trot -- there is
that much stride difference. When going on conditioning rides, my
experience is that the non-gaited just has to work harder to keep up. Watch
*your* horse very closely.

It will be interesting to see how the TWHxCBs travel in relation to other
breeds... The first one is in training now... y'all better watch out.

breeds?

I am currently looking for a trail horse for my husband. I've been seeing
some ads for some very nice-sounding walkers and other gaited horses. I am
not that familiar with the gaited breeds, and would like to get some
general
information about them. My husband does not plan on doing any competitive
rides, but will hack out with me on some of my conditioning rides. I
thought
a gaited horse might be nice because I could do the majority of my ride at
the trot for conditioning purposes and he could just comfortably gait
along.
Is that a safe assumption? My horse is a little Morgan mare - when she is
well conditioned, will she have any problems keeping up with a gaited
horse?

Any comments/opinions are welcome.

Karen & Mazzie
