RE: [RC] worming for tapeworms - Snodgrass, BonnieThe five day, double dose of fenbendazole (Panacur or Safeguard) is aimed at the encysted small strongyles that are embedded in the walls of the intestines. It will also kill other worms that are normally killed by fenbendazole wormers. Tapes are not killed by fenbendazole. Tapes are killed by pyrantel pamoate (sp?) found in Strongid paste or Rotectin 2 paste. This kind of confusion is the reason that many horses are never wormed for tapes. I wouldn't be suprised if giving single doses of pyrantel wormer, several days in a row would also kill the tapes but a double or triple dose on one day works and is cheaper. I've always heard you use a five-day regular dose of Pancur to get rid of tapeworms rather than a double or triple dose in one day. Before I spend the bucks this spring, will a couple of you vets out there comment on this, please? _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
