RE: [RC] Tapeworms - Snodgrass, BonnieI just wormed a young horse I've had just a few months for tapes (double dose of pyrantel) and he was loaded with tapes. His manure was full of dead tapes. I've seen this numerous times with other horses. Pyrantel wormer is the only wormer that I've seen used in the USA for tapes. There are a couple other wormers that will kill them, usually used on small animals. Saw one that is sold in the UK that I believe wasn't Pyrantel based. Seems that no wormers in this country are made for worming horses for tapes. No claims on the mfgrs side to kill tapes. But a double or triple dose of pyrantel is safe and effective. Just a laymans perspective. I have some questions for this list. 1) How common are tapeworms in horses? 2) Is Strongid the only wormer that treats tapes? 2) If so, why? _________________________________________________ Lif Strand * Quemado NM USA * www.fasterhorses.com ** You speak, I listen, We talk ** =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
