[RC] Bute 4 days before competition - k s swigartEd said The AERC rule is "no detectable amount". The AERC rule does not contain these words at all. What it does say is that any "equines who contain evidence of the administration of abnormal substances or of normal substances in abnormal amounts...shall be grounds for review by the Protest and Grievance committee with input of the Veterinary Committee." Who then can, presumably, decide whether the amount in evidence is enough to disqualify the horse under the requirement "that the equine is not influenced by any drug, medication or veterinary treatment." Therefore, according to the AERC rule, the Protest and Grievance Committee, with input from the Veterinary Committee, can then determine if the horse is under the influence of the drug that they found evidence of. A horse is NOT automatically disqualified by any "detectable amount." That said, I have no idea whether the amount that might be detectable after four days would be considered by the Vet and Protest Committees to be enough to influence the performance of the horse. It probably depends upon how much was given and the metabolism of the particular horse. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
