My distance horses will be getting new pasture planted this spring. I live in Iowa and am wondering what mix of pasture grass types I should use. I've been surfing the net and it's so much more complicated than I thought - life spans and seeding methods and soil ph, etc etc. I don't know if the advertised mixes for this area are what I want. Labels brag about "high sugar" and legume volume, and I don't 'think' I want either of those(?) I just want palatable hardy grasses, or if I do add a clover for the nitrogen value, should I use white or red? Susan G are you out there???
