[RC] AERC and FEI - John & Sue GreenallAh, Truman..figures it would be you to know the history of this topic and apply some intelligent comments. I was a supporter of FEI from the beginning and have attended a lot of FEI rides, both here and abroad. What I cannot understand is the "rule bound" logic of FEI. Too darn much time is spent checking paperwork, measuring paddock sizes, putting up or taking down "barriers" to keep FEI horses separate and fussing with everyone's tack when weighing in. What too many US FEI rides are not doing is checking the trail, assuring that marking is visable, having a qualified treatment vet (not just a body with a license), having equipment for the treatment vet (that was NOT funny), and applying some good old common sense when problems arise. FEI rides should at least come up to the standards of an AERC ride when it comes to these things...but sadly too much time seems to be spent on diciphering and applying "the rules". I have been very discouraged by the last several FEI rides that I have ridden and I can only hope that ride managers and officials (and vets) hear this...I am not the only voice.
