Remember that in the MW the vet is also scoring sheets for a CTR at the same time he/she would be scoring the LD. I also think that there is less demand in the midwest. If you want a BC type evaluation, you tend to do the CTR. There is a full set of yearend awards etc. (remember in the Midwest endurance, CTR, and LD are considered real distance rides. Horse mileage accumulates for all mixed together!) Also some vets (like the head vet at my ride) consider the AERC BC scoring system to not be applicable to the short rides.
