A good alternative to the expensive hoof dressings or knowing if they
are legal is:

Pure Lard.   It comes in 5 lb tubs for around $4.00 here anyway.
It keeps the coronary band supple for good hoof growth, and it keeps the
chestnuts and urgots soft and easy to pick off.

I have also used it on proud flesh and old scars.
Flies don't seem to be atracted to it either.

Just my 2 cents worth.    :o)))
