Re: [RC] Jobs and Training - Sarah W
I ride in the dark as well when I cannot get time
during daylight. It helps that my horse farm is in a
very rural area, and I do road riding and ring work -
patterns, laterals, obsticles, etc. How long I am out
and what I do completely depends on the conditions -
as Michigan can go from a sloppy, muddy mess to 0*
temps within a 24 hr time period it seems. I always
familarize myself with the weather prior to going out
too.
When riding off the property, I do have reflective /
bright clothing, and have flashing lights attached to
the bridle and on my back (small bike riding / safety
lights). It is a great way to accustom your horse to
being out after dark, get used to flashlights,
headlights, and how different the same area look in
the dark.
As for multiple horses, if you must work with all of
them, I would divide the days up. Schedule the horses
out on rotation so that you're working with 1 every
3rd day or something similar. My opinion is the winter
time is the off season, so there is reason to train
hard, but more just enough so everyone remembers what
they are suppose to be doing. Good luck!
