[RC] jobs and training - a . yovich
What kinds of conditioning activities do you do in teh dark, in the ring when
riding out really isn't an option. I board at a great barn that has varied
terrain and I use it all, but this time of year especially it's dark and the
dressage arena may be my only choice. I have a lot of ambient light from the
streets and town, but how do you keep fit? I try to do a long hack every other
week b/c I have a daughter and a husband that actually like to see me. It's my
goal in the new year to get maggie out with me the week in between. she's 5 and
has a great pony. I'm also curious how many of you guys take the kids trail
riding and how long them tend to last.
"With my older horse, I do alot of ground work and ring
riding (alot of lateral bending and transitions) twice a week. We go out for a
long hack once a week (10-20 miles, depending on the conditions on the trail).
He stays fit with this program, but obviously not for the longer distance
rides.
Unfortunately, I think if you are going to compete in a 50 or 100 early in the
season, you gotta ride in the dark;-) "
