    Sure it's happened...in the LD rides and the endurance
    distances.  That's part of life though.

    "Finish" for LD is in camp with the vet and a
    stethascope.  Remember, the physical finish line is
    often placed way out in case there's a race in the
    endurance ride.  In previous loops, riders have come
    to the vet check and mileage is calculated to that
    point usually.  There should be no reason to be
    confused (at least the night before while you still
    have your sensabilities about you. HA!)

    There are no front "runners" in LD.  We've had this
    discussion before and everyone has an opinion.  Still,
    LD is not a race and their physical finish line is at
    the vet check.
    
    If any rider competing in any distance doesn't
    complete that distance in a certain amount of time,
    that team is OT.  In accordance to the existing rules,
    LD time stops when the horse meets heart rate
    criteria.  I see no reason to change the rule...LOWER
    expectations...in order to give those who wouldn't
    otherwise complete a warm fuzzy.
