Re: [RC] Finish Line question for LD Riders - Lynne Glazer
I agree more with Jim and Angie, if any change is made, change the rule
so that if the rider crosses the finish line in 6 hrs, they are not
over time--but if they fail to pulse down in 30 minutes, they don't get
completion. Don't change the BC rules or forms, that would cost money
and be a PITA to use a different form for each distance.
Yes, Angie, we had several LD riders this year at NRR that were
overtime by not pulsing down in time, one by only a minute.
Remember that the rules were clarified, they have 1 hour for the
completion check, just like the 50s--but this calculation has been from
the time they pulse down. Should it be based on when they cross the
finish line, not when they pulse down?

The original rationale for the proposed change was to find a way to
allow LD
competitors 6 hours to complete the event, but not disqualify riders
that
finished the physical course in 6 hours, and took an additional amount
of
time to reach pulse criteria. This change would enable that since
their ride
time is calculated based upon when they cross the finish line, not
when the
pulse criteria is met. If the BC forms for LD were also changed, to
specifiy
that the pulse time was to be used, not the ride time, would it then
be an
acceptable (or desirable) rule change?

Steph...
OK, I'll bite...what is the rationale from the proposer for making the
change? Statistical? Easier for the Ride Manager? Why would we want
to
base BC score on THAT time instead of placement time? I must be
missing
something here...

I have a question for you guys:
One of the AERC directors is proposing a Rules change to LD, where
the LD
rider's finish time would be determined by when they cross the finish
line,
rather than when the horse's pulse reaches criteria. In this proposal
the
placement (first, second, third, etc) of each competitor would then be
determined separately by when their horse's pulse reaches criteria.
So your ride time would be determined by when you cross the finish
line.
This is the time that would be published in AERC results, PNER
results,
etc,
and this is the time that would be used to calculate BC scores.
But placement is entirely different - it is determined by when the
horse
reached criteria.
I would love to hear some opinions on this -
Steph
