Re: [RC] No-Hoof-No Ride - Rebecca Rohwer

All right ya'll.  I think this discussion should be chalked up to personal preference, the toughness of the horses hooves, and the type of ground on which you train.  Living smack in the middle of the rocky mountains, I feel I need shoes on my horse.  There are times that when the shoes are removed after 6 weeks they are so thin that the nail heads are practically worn off.  We ride on rocks, hard pack road, climb hills and slide down gullies.  If I had a nice soft place to train for the most part and I didn't have to worry about chips and cracks in my horses hooves, then barefoot would be just great.  And with the money I saved in shoeing I could do even more rides in a season.  Woo Hoo!  If you do ride in the same conditions I mentioned and your horse doesn't need shoes.  More power to you.  Ride ON!
