[RC] Jerez outcome... - Rides 2 Far

but after what Angie said about
    > the french team selling all their good horses to
    > UAE, how come they still finished five horse in
    > the top 11?

Hey, I just typed a quote from their Chef De Equip. I did re-read the
bios of some of their top 10 horses and found my two heros. 8th & 9th
places sound like my kind of horses.

Antinea du Nautiac: Antinea is an Arabian mare, aged 13 years of pure
Spanish bloodlines. This is a reliable horse as she has never been
eliminated. Her best performance over 160 km was her 10th place at the
    2001 EC.

Amelie Amelie is a 15 year old half Arabian mare registered as a pony in
the French studbook. This is a very reliable mare that has never been
eliminated. She has several top 10 placings, but has never won a race.
She finished three times in the top 10 in the French TChampionship in
2001, 1999 and 1997. She was also fourth last year at Florac and 5th
    this year at Guarledan.

Sounds like they're both solid completers who finally let it rip when it
counted. I'm sure the fact that they hadn't run up front much
contributed to them still being French and not UAE, but their records
wouldn't have necessarily caused you to bet on them to be top 10.

If you read endurance world you soon see that Australia and France
especially have really turned the training of endurance horses into a
profitable business. They are making money *and* spending money to breed
and produce a lot of very high quality horses. Personally, it sounds
like a lot of work to me and not really something I'd want to get
involved in. >g< I cannot imagine wanting to ride enough to keep a
whole string of horses in top shape.

It does sound like Meg Wade is the big success story this year. Wonder
how it'll feel to her to stand on the side and see a 16 year old accept
that medal for another country. Guess you can't buy a ranch with a medal
    right Barbara?

It really bites about USA not getting a medal...but oh well they
    completed...what did the T-shirts look like? :-)

    Angie
