[RC] Jerez outcome... - Lucy Trumbull
It may be money that buys good horses to win with
(or keep in the barn to prevent the competition
running them?), but after what Angie said about
the french team selling all their good horses to
UAE, how come they still finished five horse in
the top 11?
Also, the UAE seem to have been favoured by the
type of course in Jerez. Whether we like it or not,
"international endurance competition" appears to be
going the way of long-distance flat-track races -
which is what the UAE excels at.
Although it pains me to say it, there's nothing in
the "rules" to say that endurance should be done
over rough mountainous terrain, which favours
strategy and canniness as much as athletic ability
(you just feel like it *ought* to be? <g>).
When Steph said
> ...very flat course- a lot of hard packed dirt road...
> ...there are rolling hills, but minor. The OC
> decided yesterday to take out the one 'real' hill...
the likely outcome could be guessed before checking
the results (although money doesn't buy you luck
when you're riding at speed over wet clay/adobe -
and I bet they don't practise that much in the
UAE <g>).
