Re: [RC] [RC] LD finish time - Nancy Mitts
I'm afraid extending the allowable ride time for ALL rides is not a good
remedy for a few rides being too long. (Although I understand how maddening
that can be!)
In reply to someone else's idea, I wouldn't want to see the times extended
to 12 hours either. It could be a logistical nightmare for some rides. Those
of us who have to use very creative layouts to get mileage in small areas
often need to get riders moved off one section to avoid 2 way traffic in
narrow areas, etc. As a RM it's nice to be able to get all the LD paperwork
(BC's & such) done while most of the 50's are still out on trail.
I really think the time limit needs to be set so rider's need to learn how
to pay attention judge their speed. I'm one who believe's LD should be
formatted as a training ride for endurance, (yes, if that's all you want to
do, that's fine with me, too) so it wouldn't be too hard for me to accept
allowing them to arrive in camp (or wherever their ending pulse is to be
taken) within 6 hrs & pulse down within 30 min.
It's just that there have been so many changes made without considering all
the ramifications maybe this should remain under discussion for a while?
