Re: [RC] Santiam Cascade ride cancelled/now smoke damage - amber applegate
Well, down here in Jackson County and most of Southern Oregon, it s
horrible. I have not been out to ride because I can't even see across the
valley. Ash is falling and it is upper 90's to boot. In fact I decided
yesterday to cancel my plans to ride the Orick, Ca. ride on Aug. 10 because
of the fires and the highway is closed going to the coast and mainly I
haven't had Cruiser out.
But, this morning very early while the skies were clear, I saddled him up
and we took off. Honestly, it was the best ride I have had on him, ever. We
did almost 10 miles in a little less than two hours, which included
dogwalking on pavement for a couple of miles to and fro to the trails. Now
for you Ayrab folks, that is no big deal, but for my 4yo TWH that was
excellent. His HR was awesome and other than walking on the paved part, I
was able to keep him in a good RW, Rack and Cantor the entire time. He did
not show any signs of fatigue or respiration problems, so I am back to ride
Orick. My other horses including my sensitive 19 yo Arabian mare and her
two foals seem to be doing just fine too. But it sure is a nightmare outside
now. So, I will be riding at 6am each morning to stay in shape.
