We're thankfully not affected this year (so far--knock on wood) but this
area went through some pretty awful smoke situations two years ago when so
much of central Idaho and western Montana went up in flames. We had just
come back over here, and were getting the deal on our new place finalized.
Smoke was so bad that one could not see the length of a city block some
days, and there were days when it seemed like dusk even when the sun was up,
and when one could not locate the sun in the sky because of the smoke
density. Bottom line--previously healthy horses had no apparent lasting
damage from the smoke. Horses with preexisting problems had a tougher time.
