Ridecamp: RE: [RC] Santiam Cascade ride cancelled

Report as of 5:00am today:

CACHE MOUNTAIN, Deschutes National Forest. A Type 2 Incident
Management Team (Sandman)
is assigned. This fire is 15 miles northwest of Sisters, OR.
Active fire behavior with torching and
spotting on the south and east flanks was observed in brush,
slash and timber. Crews are building
fireline on the northwest flank and mopping up on the north
flank. Structure protection is in place for
1300 threatened residences and several commercial
properties. Highway 20 has been re-opened.
The Black Butte Ranch subdivision remains evacuated.

Do you know what exactly is happening with the Cache Mt.
fire?

Also, just a question for everyone who's been affected by
fire this year:
how have people been dealing with the smoke?  For those of
you who have had
smoke for weeks--is there any indication of lasting damage
to the horses?
