Hello. I recently joined this list to get some
guidance. Its been fun reading so far. I am a long time rider but have never
done distance. Dressage is my main focus and we love to do trails. I have five
horses and through some bizarre twists, I haven't been able to compete in
dressage too much this year. My Arab/cross has some mysterious back problems. We
are dealing with them. My other purebred Arabian has done distance and in the US
and Canada. I owned him once before and a part of my heart went with him. So I
bought him back. I have two horses like that:) I don't like to sell them! So, I
am going to do some novice rides with him. I live in THE flatest part of Ohio
and am at a loss of how to condition him to be able to compete where there are
hills. I can trailer him to some hills, but best case would only be once per
week. I also am not sure how long or often I should ride him. I also would like
some shoeing advice. He has just a regular plain shoe that isn't fully grooved.
He slips on pavement and we don't feel real secure. What changes should I make?
I will be riding alone too. Anyone who is in NE Ohio??? Thanks,
Colleen
