I've got a 20 year old Arab mare that I've been competing on for the last six years. She's a dream during competition, never spooks when she thinks some other horse could be in front of her. On training rides it's completely different. I ALWAYS have to have someone else in front of us or I'm laying on the ground from her antics! Well the other day I was riding with some friends and 2 of them wanted to pass myself and my other friend. Well these 2 didn't know the trail and were lost!!! Anyway to get to the point, we had to separate and I HAD TO RIDE ALONE for about 4 miles. I found that if I continued to just talk to my mare (her name is Boo, should have known we'd have troubles from the start), but as long as she hears me talking to her, she is just fine. Try it and good luck ----- Original Message ----- From: Scott & Dede Johnson Sent: Friday, July 19, 2002 10:47 PM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] No Go Solo I'm really hoping you experienced riders can help me here. My 9 year old Arab gelding does not like to go out by himself. He's just fine with others, but when I take him out here at home by ourselves, he tries to turn around (AKA spook and spin) every couple of minutes. He spooks at clumps of grass, gates we've seen 50 times- anything. He can be very stubborn. I had a similar battle with him loading into a 2 horse trailer (I won that one). It's getting very frustrating. Any ideas?
