Since you are not looking for a future endurance champion, I'd go look at every horse within your price range that sounds interesting, regardless of the breed, until you fall in love. You'll know him when you see him. You're going to be spending alot of time with and on this critter, so loving him (or her) is more important than his breed.
When, after a 20+ year hiatus from riding, I decided to buy a horse, I tried out everything I could get my hands on. Having ridden dressage, hunt-seat and saddle-seat, and not being wed to any one, I had no specific breed in mind. Ended up with a TWH because we 'clicked': he is impatient, opinionated, and high spririted- just like me!
