Hello.
Carol DiMaggio, owner of Bright Future needs help in locating a nurse mare if possible.
Early Saturday morning (June 22, 2002), her leased SWB mare Celeste had
to be euthanized due to injuries sustained during the delivery of
full-term (and unexpected) twin colts. Celeste lived long enough to be
milked, so both colts received colostrum. They were also given plasma
and antibiotics as a precautionary measure and are under continuing
veterinary care. They are drinking Foal-Lac and are reasonably strong
(both need help to get up but can stand to nurse and walk around the
stall once up).
Friends and boarders are helping make up the 24-hour feeding shifts, but
a nurse mare is needed as much for the essential horse socialization as
for aid in nourishing the colts. If you know of or hear of a mare that
has recently lost her foal, please help us get her owner in touch with
Carol.
