Nose Bleeds
Hello,
We have a mare who gets nose bleeds occasionally. This happens as
described in Sandra's post, a small amount of blood from one nostril.
Our mare gets them when competing at high altitudes and in hot weather.
She trains at 5000 ft. but when it gets higher than that we sometimes
see a brief nose bleed. It has not hurt her performance and she doesn't
seem to notice the nose bleed. My vet was not concerned. He said that
sometimes this will happen to horses that have been treated with a tube
when the horse goes for a ride and is working hard. The tube sometimes
ruptures small blood vessels or if there are any blemishes in the nose,
the tube scrapes them off and they bleed.
