Re: Rider knee surgury
Hi, Suzanne,
I had an ACL replacement and meniscus repair in January, 1991, when the ACL
required open knee surgery. It was six months before I was cleared to ride,
and it took most of that time just getting my knee back to having normal
function, straightening, muscle retraining, etc. I did Tevis the next
summer (1992). Now, the surgery is arthroscopic, and recovery is much
faster. My doctor was an athlete himself, and was very helpful in
encouraging me to return to activity. If possible, go to a doctor who does
surgery on athletes - athletes definitely use the best available. Good
luck.
