Re: girth problems

The scurfing has since disappeared. It seemed to have
>no>relationship to clean girth etc. We do ride in sand a lot, but we've
>been>doing that since July and there were no scurfing problems until the
>coat>change started coming on.

Now that I think about it, the rub I got in the sand was different...no
little black scalies.

Now for one other approach on the girthing stuff. I had talked about
moving my rigging back, but I've been studying my saddle on my horse. I
think it's too downhill. I used to keep shims in it when I used booties,
but since switching to a wool pad I've not had any. Anybody had
experience with the "downhill" build causing the saddle to go
forward...and fixing it with shims? Instead of depending on the neoprene
shims, I've made some from a very tightly woven sheet of 1/4" thick felt.
They're shaped like the ones for the Ortho-Flex, only they go all the
way across the withers. Seemed to work well in training yesterday. The
saddle felt more like it used to and not like it was sitting down in the
front. I'll let ya know if it works in competition.
