Moose Turd Pie
This is an old joke from Utah Philips (folk musician, union activist -
Wobblie - and hobo). He tells it as if it was a true story - who
knows. I tell this joke a lot, because it applies to just about
everything.
Utah was still a kid, really, working on the railroads, laying track.
The rail crew didn't have an assigned cook for the camp, so everyone had
to take a turn. How it was determined was simple. If you bitched about
the cooking, you cooked.
Well, Utah had made a mistake early on, because of course the veteran
crew members wouldn't tell anyone about the cooking rule until someone
had broken it. So Utah'd been cooking for an awfully long time. One
day, when they were in the north country, Utah had a great idea. He
made a really great flaky pie crust. Then he went out and hunted down
the biggest moose turd he could find. He put it in that pie pan, sealed
it in that wonderful crust, dusted the top with butter and a sprinkling
of sugar, baked it up, and come supper time, he put it right in the
middle of the table for all to admire.
Comes time for dessert, one old codger who'd been grumbling under his
breath all along about dinner, took himself a giant piece of that
steaming pie. He licked his lips as he cut into that crumbly crust with
his fork. He shoved that pie into his mouth and chewed. He suddenly
got all red in the face, started choking and spitting, and he jumped out
of his chair, threw down the napkin tucked into his collar and bellowed
"MY GOD!! THAT'S MOOSE TURD PIE!!!! It's good, though!"
I just thought anyone who had complaints about RMs not putting on
perfect rides might think about this joke. Lif
