Now that's a good idea -- and frankly I'm still into analyzing the
accident to learn how to prevent future ones like it.
One thing about this scenario interests me -- there was a truck entering
the campsite slooooowly at just the moment of the race to the finish. So
the finish line was the main/only road in and out of camp? Were there any
markers on the road warning people who were NOT part of the ride just what
they were driving into? How about spotters? I'm just thinking that this
particular scenario is common at rides in the SE (at least those I've been
to) and I can see exactly this type of thing happening -- finish line is
often set away from camp to avoid the traffic there, but when it's on a
free-access public road, maybe something should be done to restrict or at
least warn non-ride traffic?
Does the AERC produce any kind of RM info packet with guidelines on
marking trail and all the other millions of things that need to be done
to put on a ride? I realize that most RMs have tons of experience, but
some don't, and even those who do can often benefit from a good idea they
just haven't thought of yet.
