I have to wonder if there were any repercussions for the person who was
driving a truck on the road just in front of the finish line - if it's
considered reckless to race towards the finish line and the riders were
held/felt responsible (enough for them to lose their placings), isn't it
equally as reckless to be blocking the race route, for whatever reason?
Somehow it makes me feel very uncomfortable to think that anyone would
find racing to the finish line to be a reckless thing to do. True, the
riders were off course, but also true they didn't have the option to
stay on the course. I don't know, the whole thing just sounds bad for
all involved. I can see this leading to discussions of more rules:
"No racing to the finish line" or "all horses must be able to be stopped
within 15' upon command, even when racing to the finish line" or "No
spectators near the finish line" - you know. Just more rules. Lif
