Speaking of shots - need some help

Group,

I have a problem that maybe others can help me with. The horse I have been
riding lately is my wifes horse, Jordy. He is purebred Arab (1/4 polish,
3/4 Egyptian). We have had him for about 4 years. He has just turned 8.
His early life was spent as a halter horse for a big Arab farm in Sarasota,
FL. He must have been good because he won a whole bunch of things his two
year old year. But the wife who owned the horses liked to sleep with her
trainers and husband who had all the money, divored wife.

She gelded all her stallions prior to the settlement (reduced their value)
and gave them away to get even. We picked up Jordy about two years later
because he was frankly a handful and he was at the right price. He is
actually a nice horse. When we got him he was muscled more like a quarter
horse (bulked up) than an Arab.

Our vet suspected it was because of steriod use. This is probably true
since his muscling has completely change in the past three years and the
bulk has gone. His behavior is also much calmer. When we got him he could
be agressive. Now he is as calm as a kitten and wouldn't hurt a fly. He
will even let Rocket come and eat out of his bucket with him.

The problem is giving him shots. He gets very upset when he sees a
syringe. He becomes extremely nervous and frightened. It is very
difficult to give him a shot - even the vet has trouble. Her, the vet's,
theory is that since steriods sting when injected Jordy associates shots
with a pain.

My question to the group is how do I get him over this?
